Who are we?
Stockroom is a writers room for theatre, creating new shows for stages around the country. We also host No.38 – a creative hub with a free desk space for theatre artists and a new podcast recording studio.
Stockroom is home to a room of writers who work collaboratively on a wide variety of new plays and projects for the stage. Sessions like these are our way of recreating the process we use – we believe a collaborative process like this, featuring a varied but aligned group of voices, is how the best stories are developed.
Who is this for?
Freelance writers looking to join a community of theatre artists and writers, with a new or developed idea for a show. See more details below about how we will structure the event – we are looking for up to 6 people to share their ideas – booking early is advised as we are likely to fill the group quickly
What will the event look like?
It is an afternoon session, where we bring writers together from 11am to 4.30pm, there will be 20 mins per person for pitching and feedback. We will take breaks throughout and have a longer lunch break.
What is a pitch? Simply introducing the main idea of your new show, talk about it in as much or as little detail as you feel is right for your process. Also bring 3 questions ready that you would like to put out for the other writers – they are here to help and discuss, there will be 20 mins per person for pitching and feedback.
A member of the Stockroom team will facilitate the event and take notes.
Sharing
- Think “Elevator Pitch” – Give us a short description/synopsis of what you are working on. What is it about?
- Then focus on a specific aspect of your work – the first page or two or three, the ending of a scene/event, a character transitioning through an arc etc.
- Maybe also think what you are hoping to find out/what guidance you are in need of
Listening
- Participants will act as a sounding board, asking questions and sharing thoughts based on what has been shared.
- Positive comments are welcomed and encouraged and we should be searching for the goodness within each other’s work/ideas.
- We want to prioritise questions over criticism and let any questions guide the reader into discovery. Think sounding board.
Please note that this event is not to pitch shows to Stockroom, and is a peer-led collaborative workshop event, opinions shared are not the opinion of Stockroom Productions.
Can’t attend this event? No worries! There’s still the opportunity to use our building No.38 by working in our free desk space in North London, or by using our new Podcast facility.
