“Discovering and nurturing new voices who can challenge the theatre to tell stories about more of the world is a crucial and profoundly rewarding part of working in this trade. The Andrea Project can be a machine for doing just that, with the appropriate dedication and resources.” – Barney Norris
These sessions are for writers at any level and anybody interested in writing and theatre. Spend an evening with a successful writer and find out what makes them tick. Learn their methods, look at some basic principles of writing, and get some practical top tips.
THE CAUSE
All money raised will go towards funding ‘The Andrea Project’ – an education project inspired by Andrea Dunbar, the writer of Rita, Sue and Bob Too. She lived her entire life in poverty and had her first play produced at the Royal Court while she was living at a women’s refuge at the age of 18. Andrea had no further education, and no background in the arts.
The Andrea Project is a direct response to the question: would we find Andrea today? It provides young people with a free playwriting course led by a professional writer, and the opportunity to have their own short play performed in a theatre by professional actors. We hope to give budding writers, whatever their background, both the skills and the ambition to be playwrights and to show us the world through their eyes.
The project was piloted last year, and the participants are all determined to keep writing. Learn more or donate here.
